Job types

Adaptive lets you label jobs with your own job types, then filter the jobs list and WIP report by them.

A job type is a label you put on a job so you can group and filter jobs that belong together: remodels, service calls, warranty work. You create your own job types as you go.

1. Set a job type on a job

  • Go to Jobs.

  • Open the job.

  • Click Settings to open Job settings.

  • On the Details tab, find Job type and click Select job type.

  • Pick an existing type, or type a new name and click Add a job type to create it.

  • Click Save.

A job has one job type at a time. You need permission to edit job settings — if you don't see the Settings tab on a job, ask your Adaptive admin.

2. Set job types on several jobs at once

  • Go to Jobs.

  • Select the jobs you want to update.

  • In the toolbar that appears, open Set job type and pick the type.

  • Click Apply.

3. Filter and report by job type

Once your jobs are labeled, job type shows up in two places:

  • Jobs page: a Job type column on the list, and a job type filter.

  • WIP report: a job type filter, and a Job type column you can turn on. That column is off by default.

4. Delete or rename a job type

Open the Job type menu on any job to manage your list.

  • To delete a type, click the trash icon next to it and confirm. Adaptive asks "Are you sure you want to delete this job type?" and tells you "It will be removed from all jobs currently using it."

  • The jobs themselves are untouched. They keep their budgets, costs, and settings, and their job type goes blank.

  • To rename, create the new type, apply it to the jobs that need it, then delete the old one.

5. Job type and Revenue calculation type are different settings

These two sound alike and both appear on the WIP report.

Job type is a label. It has no effect on budgets, costs, billing, or the numbers on your WIP report. If WIP revenue looks wrong for a job, check its Revenue calculation type.

FAQ

1. Do job types sync with QuickBooks or Procore?

No. Job types are set in Adaptive and stay in Adaptive.

2. What about Sage Intacct?

Yes. When we pull a job from Sage Intacct we bring its job type across, and create the type in Adaptive if it doesn't exist yet.

3. Do I have to set a job type?

No. It's optional. A job with no type works normally everywhere.
